Retired Lt. Gen. Dan “Razin” Caine, the nominee for Joint Chiefs chair, contradicted President Donald Trump’s assertion that he wore a MAGA hat during their meeting in Iraq.
During his Senate confirmation hearing, Caine stated, “For 34 years, I’ve upheld my oath of office and my commitment to my commission, and I have never worn any political merchandise.”
Caine’s Testimony and Political Neutrality
The confirmation hearing, following Trump’s dismissal of Gen. C.Q. Brown, focused on Caine’s ability to serve as a non-partisan military adviser.
He refuted Trump’s account of a 2018 Iraq visit where Trump claimed Caine said, “I would kill for you, sir,” and put a MAGA cap on him. Caine clarified, “The president was actually referring to someone else. I have always maintained political neutrality.”
Senate’s Confidence in Caine
Senator Roger Wicker expressed trust in Caine, believing he would provide unbiased advice to the president.
With a clear commitment to non-partisanship, Caine’s testimony underscores the importance of political neutrality in military leadership.
