Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has made the decision to postpone his scheduled book tour events this week due to security concerns. This comes in the midst of intense backlash from the party base following last week’s government funding vote.
Schumer had planned to visit several cities in the coming days to promote his latest book, titled ‘Antisemitism in America: A Warning.’ Events in Baltimore, Washington, New York City, and Philadelphia have all been postponed.
Reasons for Postponement
A spokesperson for Schumer stated, ‘Due to security concerns, Senator Schumer’s book events are being rescheduled.’ Additionally, the websites for the Baltimore and Washington events have both announced the postponements citing security reasons.
The decision to postpone the book tour events coincides with criticism Schumer is facing for his role in advancing a House GOP-drafted funding bill to prevent a government shutdown. Activists and advocacy groups had planned protests at some of the scheduled book tour stops.
Defending his vote on the funding measure, Schumer emphasized that while he did not agree with the bill, he believed that avoiding a government shutdown was crucial to prevent President Donald Trump and Elon Musk from further reducing the federal bureaucracy’s size.
