An 82-year-old Colorado woman who was injured in a Molotov cocktail attack on demonstrators in support of Israeli hostages this month has tragically passed away, according to court documents filed Monday.
Karen Diamond succumbed to the severe injuries she sustained in the attack, as confirmed by the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office in a recent statement.
Details of the Attack
Mohamed Sabry Soliman was recently indicted on 12 hate crime counts for his involvement in the June 1 attack in downtown Boulder. The assailant allegedly attempted to kill eight individuals by hurling Molotov cocktails—flammable liquid-filled bottles that he ignited—during a demonstration. Soliman’s actions also put others in the vicinity at risk.
During a court hearing, Soliman’s attorney, David Kraut, entered a plea of not guilty on his client’s behalf. The accused, represented by public defenders who refrain from discussing ongoing cases with the media, faces serious charges for his violent actions.
Insights from the Investigation
According to investigators, Soliman confessed to intending to eliminate approximately 20 participants at the weekly demonstration on Boulder’s Pearl Street pedestrian mall. Despite his intentions, he only threw a fraction of the Molotov cocktails he had prepared, shouting “Free Palestine” as he did so.
Furthermore, Soliman revealed that he had attempted to purchase a firearm but was unsuccessful due to his legal status. He is currently facing prosecution in state court for attempted murder and additional offenses related to the incident.
