Mahmoud Khalil’s Advocacy and Reception
Embraced by friends and the media at Newark International Airport, Khalil made his intentions clear, denouncing the U.S. government’s involvement in what he termed as a genocide and Columbia University’s complicity through investments. Expressing his unwavering commitment to the cause, he declared, “This is why I will continue to protest with every one of you, even in the face of threats or worse.”
His arrival was marked by the presence of Ocasio-Cortez, who condemned his detention as a violation of the First Amendment, labeling it an assault on American values. She emphasized the baseless nature of the allegations against Khalil, attributing them to a political vendetta rather than legal merit.
Khalil’s Pledge and Support for Immigrants
At 30 years old, Khalil, a legal resident, emphasized his commitment not only to the Palestinian cause but also to advocating for the immigrants he encountered during his detention.
