Prosecutors from Los Angeles County have taken legal action against District Attorney Nathan Hochman, claiming retaliation for advocating the reduction of the Menendez brothers’ prison terms. The attorneys allege demotion to junior roles for supporting resentencing of Lyle and Erik Menendez, convicted in 1996 for their parents’ murder.
Last fall, Former District Attorney George Gascón proposed resentencing the brothers, aiming to alter their sentence to 50 years to life instead of ‘life without parole.’ Hochman, after assuming office, opposed this move, prompting backlash.
Nancy Theberge and Brock Lunsford, the prosecutors, assert that Hochman and other office superiors penalized them for endorsing Gascón’s resentencing memo. Theberge additionally cites age and gender bias in her treatment.
Attorney Justin Shegerian, representing Theberge and Lunsford, emphasized the duo’s adherence to legal norms and integrity in filing the resentencing motion. Hochman’s office refrained from immediate comment on the allegations.
