Join the ‘Hands Off!’ protests across the U.S. to voice opposition to President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk’s policies on government downsizing, human rights, and more.
Over 1,200 demonstrations have been organized by various groups, including civil rights organizations, labor unions, LGBTQ+ advocates, veterans, and elections activists. These protests will take place at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., state capitols, and other locations nationwide.
What Are the Protests About?
Protesters are condemning the Trump administration’s decisions to terminate federal workers, close Social Security Administration offices, dismantle agencies, deport immigrants, reduce protections for transgender individuals, and slash funding for health programs.
Elon Musk’s Role
Elon Musk, a Trump advisor and head of the Department of Government Efficiency, has been instrumental in the government downsizing efforts. Musk, known for his companies like Tesla and SpaceX, claims to be saving taxpayers billions.
The White House responded to the protests by reaffirming President Trump’s commitment to protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid for eligible recipients. They criticized the Democrats for allegedly extending these benefits to illegal immigrants.
History of Protests
While there have been numerous protests against Trump and Musk since they assumed office, none have reached the scale of events like the Women’s March in 2017 or the Black Lives Matter demonstrations following George Floyd’s death in 2020.
Organizers anticipate that the upcoming demonstrations will be the largest since Trump’s re-election in January.
