President Donald Trump has issued strong warnings to Iran, threatening bombings and secondary tariffs if the country does not reach an agreement with his administration regarding its nuclear program.
During a phone call with NBC News’ Kristen Welker, Trump stated, “If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing.” He also mentioned the possibility of imposing secondary tariffs on Iran, similar to actions taken four years ago that significantly impacted the country.
Iran’s Response and Negotiations
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian responded to Trump’s overtures by rejecting direct negotiations with the United States. Despite this, Pezeshkian left the door open for indirect negotiations between the two nations.
Escalating Tensions
Tensions between Iran and the U.S. have been mounting since Trump’s return to the White House. His administration has been adamant that Iran must not obtain a nuclear weapon. Trump previously withdrew the U.S. from a 2015 treaty with Iran aimed at curbing its nuclear ambitions, alleging Iran’s non-compliance.
Recently, Trump also warned of potential military action against Iran for its support of Yemen’s Houthis. He cautioned that any further aggression from the Houthis would be viewed as a direct Iranian attack and met with force.
International Response
The international community, including China, Russia, France, Germany, Britain, and the European Union, was part of the 2015 treaty with Iran. The escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran have raised concerns globally about the potential for conflict.
