Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his country’s willingness to progress on a minerals and security agreement following a recent incident in the Oval Office. This development comes after a contentious meeting with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, which raised diplomatic tensions and reverberated globally.
Zelenskyy took to the social media platform X to address the situation, stating, “Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not unfold as expected. It is time to rectify the situation. We seek future collaboration and dialogue to be productive.”
Zelenskyy’s Vision for Cooperation
The discussions between Trump and Zelenskyy have been centered on a potential agreement that would grant the United States access to Ukraine’s mineral reserves in exchange for a “reconstruction investment fund” aimed at Ukrainian development.
In his online statement, the Ukrainian leader expressed readiness to engage under President Trump’s leadership to achieve lasting peace. He proposed mutual releases of prisoners by Ukraine and Russia, along with an immediate agreement on a “truce in the sky” and “truce in the sea.”
