In the latest Gallup poll released on Tuesday, it was revealed that Barack Obama holds the highest favorability rating among all living presidents, while Joe Biden lags behind.
According to the survey conducted in the week following President Donald Trump’s inauguration, Obama secured the top spot with a favorability rating of 59 percent. In contrast, Biden received the lowest favorability rating at 39 percent. Trump and Bill Clinton tied for the second lowest rating at 48 percent, with George W. Bush ranking second at 52 percent.
The poll also highlighted that Obama, Bush, and Clinton were viewed more favorably than unfavorably by Americans. On the other hand, opinions on Trump were divided, with 50 percent holding an unfavorable opinion. Biden faced more challenges, as 57 percent of respondents viewed him unfavorably.
Notably, Obama’s favorability ratings have remained steady post-presidency, while Bush experienced a slight decrease. The decline in Bush’s ratings is attributed to a growing number of Americans being unfamiliar with his presidency. Conversely, Clinton’s overall image has improved, with fewer individuals holding an unfavorable view of him.
Despite starting with an approval rating of nearly 60 percent at his inauguration, Biden’s favorability dipped following the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. Concerns over his handling of various issues, including the Israel-Hamas conflict, immigration, and the economy, further impacted his approval ratings. Recent polls from January indicated a record low approval rating for Biden shortly before his term concluded.
The Gallup poll surveyed 1,001 American adults from January 21-27, with a margin of error of +/- 4 percentage points.
