Kyrsten Sinema Joins Coinbase's Global Advisory Council in Crypto Move
Kyrsten Sinema’s New Role in the Crypto Industry
Former Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) and Chris LaCivita, President Donald Trump’s 2024 co-campaign manager, have recently been appointed to Coinbase’s Global Advisory Council. This strategic move comes as the cryptocurrency industry seeks validation in the new Trump administration.
The announcement follows Trump’s establishment of a task force dedicated to formulating federal regulations for the $3.5 trillion cryptocurrency market. Evidently, the new administration aims to foster a more positive relationship with the industry compared to the previous Biden administration.
Notable Appointments and Coinbase’s Perspective
Joining Sinema and LaCivita on the council are renowned figures such as former Federal Reserve Bank of New York President Bill Dudley and Luis Alberto Moreno, the former economic development minister of Colombia. Faryar Shirzad, Coinbase’s chief policy officer, expressed gratitude for the exceptional expertise the new members bring to the company.
During the 2024 campaign, Trump actively engaged with crypto investors and executives, positioning himself as a proponent of the industry. Significant financial backing from crypto firms and individuals further reinforced his stance as a crypto-friendly candidate.
Sinema’s Stance on Crypto Legislation
While serving in the Senate, Sinema aligned with 11 Democrats in an effort to challenge a Securities and Exchange Commission rule requiring companies to classify digital assets as liabilities on their balance sheets. Her advocacy for modernizing financial practices and supporting crypto innovation underscores her commitment to advancing the interests of crypto users.
“We have a chance to modernize finance for all Americans and lead on global crypto innovation,” Sinema emphasized. She looks forward to championing the 52 million Americans invested in crypto and supporting Coinbase’s mission to enhance personal finance accessibility and efficiency.
