Trump Administration Shake-Ups: Milley and Andrés Dismissed from Council Positions
President Donald Trump made headlines early Tuesday morning with his announcement to dismiss more than a thousand presidential appointees who he believes are not aligned with his vision to Make America Great Again.
One of the first dismissals included former Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mark Milley, from the National Infrastructure Advisory Council, and celebrity chef José Andrés from the President’s Council on Sports. Trump also removed former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms from the President’s Export Council and Brian Hook from the Wilson Center for Scholars.
These abrupt changes were revealed through Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, with the president declaring, “YOU’RE FIRED!” to the affected individuals.
Mark Milley, who had previously clashed with Trump, was preemptively pardoned by President Joe Biden, while José Andrés cited the conclusion of his two-year term as the reason for his resignation.
Trump’s ongoing efforts to reshape the federal government by eliminating what he perceives as disloyal employees have been met with mixed reactions. His recent executive order aims to weaken protections for federal workers, continuing his campaign promise to “drain the swamp” and bring about significant changes.
Elon Musk, a billionaire ally of Trump, has been tasked with spearheading some of these government efficiency initiatives, aiming to identify substantial budget cuts. This move aligns with Trump’s goal to overhaul Washington and streamline operations within the administration.
While administration shake-ups are common during transitions, Trump’s bold approach to governance has been marked by frequent announcements on social media platforms. His actions mirror those of his predecessor, President Biden, who also implemented changes to advisory boards early in his term.
