Egede expressed a willingness to foster partnerships with the EU and U.S. and welcomed increased investments in Greenland’s mining sector. This aligns with the views shared by the island’s natural resources minister, Naaja H. Nathanielsen, in a recent opinion piece published in The Washington Post.
Path to Independence
Egede stated that Greenlanders should have the opportunity to decide their political future through a referendum. Emphasizing the importance of self-determination, he envisions an independent Greenland maintaining its NATO membership and forging robust security alliances with the U.S. and EU.
